Cape Eland

Cape Eland is the largest antelope in Africa. It can weigh up to 700 kg. Both bulls and cows have horns. The bull's horns are significantly shorter than the female’s, however, it characterizes itself by being stronger.

Eland is a very alert animal and often very challenging to hunt as it flees at the first sign of danger. Eland are often found in groups of 8 to 12 animals, but very large flocks are also not uncommon.

Taken the size of the animal into account, they are incredibly athletic and can easily jump over a fence of 2.5 meters. The Eland will typically become between 15-20 years old.

Hunting Cape Eland

While many Eland through time have been shot with less rifles, a .375 is not considered over-kill. Most professional hunters in South Africa recommend to use a .375 as a minimum calibre shot at Eland.

In the immediate vicinity of Side By Side Safaris exclusive hunting lodge, we have a hunting area, which is known for having some of the biggest trophy Cape Eland in South Africa. Our customers can expect the chance for a shot at an absolute top trophy.
