Nyala
The Nyala is an elegant and colourful member of the spiral-horn Antelopes. It belongs in Zululand, but today there is also a strong stock in the Eastern Cape province. The species is closely related to the Bushbuck. Many hunters consider the Nyala to be one of the most beautiful trophies in South Africa.
Only the males have lyre-shaped spiral horns, with an ivory top. The Nyala is found primarily in dense thicket with good coverage. It comes out on the open plains to grass in the early and cool morning and evening hours. It is often here the hunt will take place.
The Nyala is very dependent on water and need to drink several times a day.
Hunting for Nyala can be a real challenge, since it is often hunted in dense terrain.
Hunting Nyala
The recommended choice of calibre for this wild species should be a .270 or .30-06. As always, it is important to use quality ammunition.
Side By Side Safaris has a large adjacent hunting concession where there is a strong population of Nyala, with a trophy quality of the highest possible standard.
