The Vaal Rhebok is a medium sized antelope, grey/brown in colour and with thick, woolly hair. They live on some of the highest mountains found in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.

Only the males carry horns, which are vertical and pointy. They are often seen in family groups of up to about 12 animals, which consist of a male, a female and their cups.

The Vaal Rhebok feed exclusively on grass in the high mountain regions. Natural enemies of the Vaal Rhebok are leopard and Caracal and for the young animals, it is also Jackal, baboons and eagles.

Hunting Vaal Rhebok

For this wild species you should choose a riffle that you feel comfortable with. It does not require any particularly large calibre to shoot a Vaal Rhebok. However, you will often have to shoot long and demanding shots in the mountains, hence it is recommended to use flat-shooting riffle calibres.
