Oryx (Gemsbok)

The Oryx (Gemsbok) is a uniquely adaptable animal. They live primarily on open ground, and can survive even in the harshest environments such as extreme desert areas. It originates from the Kalahari, and can survive without water for months, only living of the water it gains from its food.

An Oryx-female tends to have a slightly smaller body, while the horns are slimmer and usually longer than the ones of males.

The Oryx is a strong antelope, which should be shot with a minimum calibre of .270. A 7mm or .30-06 is also an excellent calibre for this wild species.

Side By Side Safaris has a large nearby hunting concession where there is a strong population of Oryx, with a trophy quality of the highest possible standard.
