Black Springbok is a variation/mutation in colour from the Common Springbok. The Springbok is considered by many hunters to be the most beautiful South African gazelle. The Springbok is the national animal of South Africa. Its name means "jumping buck", an accurate description of its response when it gets scared and flees. Springbok is legendary as it is considered the tastiest of all African gazelles.

The Springbok is a sociable pack animal and prefers semi-desert and wide-open grasslands, including the Kalahari and Karoo Desert. They live of both grass and leaves, and is not dependent on water, even though it will drink daily if there is water available from ponds or natural sources.

Trophy assessment can be difficult since both males and females bear horns. Male horn is bigger and longer than the ones of females.

Because of their phenomenal eyesight and habitat in the desert, the search can be difficult, and can present significant challenges.

Hunting Black Springbok

It is recommended to use flat-shooting rifle calibres as long shots often can occur in the open terrain. A good choice of rifle calibre for this wild species would be a 6.5x55. Another effective calibre can be a .270.

Side By Side Safaris has a large nearby hunting concession where there is a strong population of Black Springbok, with a trophy quality in the absolute top class.

The current world record Black Springbok has been shot not far away from Side by Side Safaris’ hunting lodge.
