The Ostrich is the world's largest bird. The ostrich is common across much of southern Africa. It has only two toes, a very long neck and long legs. Its head and neck are covered with fine feathers, while its legs are bare. Males are black in colour, whereas the female is mostly grey.

This big bird lives in the drier desert areas and occurs in groups of 5 to 40 birds. The ostrich eat grass, berries, seeds, new blooming plants, small reptiles and insects.

The skin of the ostrich is commonly used as exotic leather. The leather of ostrich is extremely durable and very popular.

Ostrich hunt

Ostrich may be killed with almost any rifle. Often, the chance of shooting occurs while you are on the hunt for another wild species, hence the choice of rifle and calibre will often be the one you have at hand.

The trophy is frequently made as a shoulder mount, possibly with wings spread out. The skin from the back is often tanned into leather and dyed according to the costumers’ wishes.

Side By Side Safaris has several nearby hunting areas with large numbers of ostriches.
