Giraffe

The giraffe is the biggest ruminant and the tallest mammal on Earth.

Both sexes have horns covered by skin. The horns of a male, is thicker and balding on the top, in contrast to the females.

Giraffe feed primarily on leaves of different hawthorn trees and shrubs, and can eat leaves in a height where no other animals can reach, except elephants. The giraffe eats mainly during the daytime and sleep at night.

Humans and lions are their only natural enemies due to their size.

The giraffe has an exceptionally good eyesight and hearing, and is very alert. All this combined with its height gives it great advantages against its enemies. Hunting for giraffe can be quite challenging.

The giraffe has a thick and tough skin and will require the same bullet selection as an elephant. While a quick 7mm is legal, a .375 H&H is the optimal choice for this wild species. Shot with full-jacketed rifle projectiles will be recommended. The preferred target is the spine. The heart is located very differently from the one of an antelope. The heart is located in the centre of the chest, forward and above the shoulder joints. A shot at the heart or spine, will only take place after thorough information from the professional hunter.

The hunt for Giraffe’s is an extremely interesting and exciting game, even though the giraffe is not recorded in the record books.
