Wildebeest, Kings

The Kings Wildebeest is a rare variation/mutation in colour from Blue Wildebeest. Side By Side Safaris was among the first safari providers in South Africa to offer hunting for this unique wild species.

Kings Wildebeest are often found grazing on the savannah, but its habitat is equally in mountainous terrain.

Both sexes carry horns and are of similar size and colour, thus making it difficult to distinguish bulls from the cows. The most obvious difference is that males have thicker horn bases.

This hardy wild species should require a minimum calibre of .270. A .300 Magnum with 200- or 220-grain bullets is another excellent alternative. Hunted in close terrain, even larger calibres and heavier bullets could be recommended.

Wildebeest is known to be extremely dangerous when it is wounded. Therefore it is strongly recommended to be ready to shoot again immediately after the first shot, if the animal does not go down immediately.

Side By Side Safaris has a portfolio of large hunting areas in the Eastern Cape in South Africa, where there are populations of this wild species with a trophy quality of top class.
