Livingstone Eland

The Livingstone Eland originates from Angola, the north western part of Namibia, northern Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Subsequently, it has been exposed in South Africa. There is currently a sustainable population of Livingstone Eland several places in South Africa. Livingstone Eland is by many confused with Cape Eland, as there are only minor differences. One of the differences is the distinctive white stripes on the body of Livingstone Eland.

Livingstone Eland is one of Africa's largest antelopes. It can weigh up to 700 kg. Both males and females are wearing horns. The bull's horns are significantly shorter than the female’s, however; they characterize themselves by being stronger.

The Eland is a very alert animal and can be a very challenging hunt as it flees at the first sign of danger. Eland are often found in groups of 8 to 12 animals, but very large flocks are also not uncommon.

Taken the animal’s size into account, they are incredibly athletic and can easily jump over a fence of 2.5 meters. The Eland typically becomes between 15-20 years old.

A .375 calibre is not considered ‘over-kill’ for this great wild species. Most professional hunters in South Africa recommend using a .375 as a minimum calibre.

Side By Side Safaris offers a large hunting area, which is known for having some of the biggest Livingstone Eland in South Africa trophy wise. Our customers can expect the chance to shoot a top class trophy.
