The Painted Oryx (Painted Gemsbok) is just a variation/mutation in colour from the regular Oryx (Gemsbok).

The Painted Oryx is a uniquely adaptable animal. They live primarily on open ground, and can survive in the harshest environments such as extreme desert areas. It originates from the Kalahari, and can survive without water for months, only living of the water it gains from its food.

A Painted Oryx female tend to have a slightly smaller body, while the horns are slimmer and usually longer than the ones of males.

Hunting Painted Oryx

Painted Oryx is a strong antelope and should be shot with a minimum calibre of .270. A 7mm or .30-06 is an even better calibre for this wild species.

By many the meat of an Oryx is considered to be the most delicious thing on the African continent.

Side By Side Safaris has a large nearby hunting concession with several Painted Oryx, with a trophy quality of the highest possible standard.
