Rusa Stag

The Rusa Stag is an exciting and rare wildlife species that can be hunted in South Africa. Originally it comes from its primary habitat on the island of Java in Indonesia. Today there is also a stock in the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa, where Side By Side Safaris has hunting rights.

The Rusa Stag is a uniquely adaptable animal. They live primarily in close terrain, but can also do well in semi-desert areas.

Only the males are wearing horns, and they are thrown every year. This wild species is very social, and will only rarely be seen alone. If a hunter or another danger is discovered, they will alert each other immediately with some extremely loud screams/whistles.

Although the Rusa Stag is not big of body, these are very strong animals, and should be shot with a minimum calibre of .270 or .30-06.

Side By Side Safaris has a large hunting concession with a population of Rusa Stag, with a trophy quality of the highest possible calibre.
