Axis Deer

The Axis Deer, also known as the spotted deer, generally lives in dense forest areas in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, and most of India. It is the most common species of deer in the Indian forests. Many years ago the Axis Deer was exposed in several places in the Eastern Cape province in South Africa, and today there is a stock of this pretty, wild species.

The Axis Deer's fur is reddish/brown, marked with white spots, while the underside of the belly is white. Its horns, as it sheds annually, are usually lyre-shaped and can grow up to 75 cm.

Because of the strength of the Axis Deer a calibre .270 is a good choice. Larger and heavier calibre choices will also be suitable for this wild species.

Side By Side Safaris offers hunting for Axis Deer in a 23,000-hectare large hunting area northeast of our exclusive hunting lodge.
